Transportation Commission awards $17 million in highway contracts in July

July 31, 2017

The Wyoming Department of Transportation will replace the southbound bridge on I-25 near Douglas to improve traffic flow.

The Wyoming Transportation Commission awarded Oftedal Construction Inc., of Casper, a $9.7 million contract for the work at its meeting on July 20. The commission awarded that and eight other contracts totaling $17 million.

The work on the I-25 bridge is needed because the current structure has limited clearance and is aging. WYDOT will raise the bridge about 6 feet to provide additional clearance for local traffic using the underpass.

The shoulder area will also be widened and crews will repave about 5 miles. The contract completion date is June 30, 2019.

The other contracts the commission awarded included road surfacing, sign replacement and traffic signal work.

Evans Construction Co., of Jackson, was the low bidder on a $2.4 million intersection realignment project at US 26 and WYO 22 in Jackson.

The work will include adding two left turning lanes from Broadway to WYO 22 and other intersection work to improve traffic flow. Crews are expected to complete the majority of the work in the fall. The contract completion date is June 30, 2018.

McGarvin-Moberly Construction Co., of Worland, won a $2.1 million road leveling and surfacing project on 6 miles of WYO 530 between Green River and the Utah state line.

Crews will smooth out bumps, apply material to level the road and repave it. WYDOT is doing the work to repair the road and extend its life. The work is being paid for with 10-cent fuel-tax revenue and is expected to be completed by June 30, 2018.

The commission also awarded contracts for:

  • $824,640 to S & L Industrial, of Cowley, for installation of new posts and sign panels on Interstate 80 in Laramie County by June 30, 2018;
  • $654,756 to 71 Construction, of Casper, to replace fix joints and replace broken concrete on Wyoming Boulevard in Casper and West Yellowstone in Douglas by June 30, 2018;
  • $588,580 to Knife River, of Cheyenne, to install sediment catchers and perform erosion control work on 4 miles of WYO 251 between Casper and Casper Mountain by June 30, 2018;
