Big concrete pour scheduled for June 19 on North Federal in Riverton

Nearly 800 cubic yards of concrete is scheduled to be poured Tuesday, June 19, on the $13.96 million North Federal highway improvement project in Riverton.

The largest concrete pour of the project, thus far, is between East Park Avenue and East Lincoln Avenue, and is dependent upon favorable weather.

"There will be increasing truck traffic, including about 80 concrete trucks, using North Federal Boulevard (WY789) on Tuesday morning," said Wyoming Department of Transportation resident engineer Robert Scheidemantel of Riverton. "We appreciate everyone's patience. The excellent summer-like weather is helping the contractor to make good progress on this project."

Scheidemantel said the prime contractor, S&S Builders, LLC, of Gillette, and its subcontractors intend to lengthen the work zone next week with concrete demolition to Forest Drive. "Business accesses will be rebuilt in a timely manner as this project progresses to the north," he said. "And until the Park Avenue intersection reopens about June 27, demolition will not occur in the Pershing/Federal intersection."

S&S plans to work Saturday, June 23, in the Park Avenue intersection to make sure the Park intersection reopens to west- and east-bound traffic by June 27.

In other news, WYDOT is granting permission to S&S to move the 2018 work zone 375 feet north of Forest Drive to near the south edge of the Sunset Drive/North Federal intersection.

The 375-foot work extension means that work will continue in the northbound lanes of North Federal Boulevard, prior to the contractor moving to the south end of the project to work on the two southbound lanes of North Federal at Washington.

"Just like the rest of the project, the contractor will work with businesses to keep business accesses open to each business during construction," Scheidemantel said. "And, the contractor is required to communicate individually with each business owner during construction."

Citizens are reminded that the intersections at East Washington and East Fremont have reopened to east- and west-bound traffic, and the weekly project public meetings are 10 a.m. every Thursday in Riverton City Hall.

Scheidemantel reminds of the 20 mph speed limit inside the project work zone, and the "no left-hand turn" policy. Riverton Police, Fremont County Sheriff's deputies, and Wyoming Highway Patrol troopers are writing tickets and enforcing the no left-hand turn policy to keep north- and south-bound traffic moving efficiently on Federal Boulevard.
