Casper West Belt Loop opens to traffic

December 31, 2015

The Casper West Belt Loop connecting the Shoshoni Bypass and U.S. 20/26 on Casper's west side to Wyoming 220 to the southwest is now open to traffic.

The 7.5 mile, two-lane road will provide greater access to Casper's west side, and is expected to reduce the number of trucks traveling through Casper on CY Avenue and Wyoming Boulevard.

Traffic on the West Belt Loop has the right of way at its intersection with Robertson Road. Temporary electronic message signs will remind drivers on Robertson Road of the stop signs they will now encounter at the intersection.

Most of the road has a 65 mph speed limit, but it drops to 40 mph near its north end and 45 mph at its south end.

A scenic overlook on the highway provides a view of Casper Mountain and peaks to the southwest, and drivers should be alert for traffic entering and exiting the highway at that location.

Though the road will carry traffic through the winter, it's anticipated that minor finish work will be needed next season. The work will be completed without closures.
