District-wide chip seal project could cause delays

LARAMIE, Wyo. — Motorists around southeast Wyoming can expect delays as the Wyoming Department of Transportation’s District 1 begins its annual chip sealing project on Tuesday, June 4, weather permitting.

Chip sealing helps preserve the pavement and improves pavement traction.

Crews with Intermountain Slurry Seal, Inc. will begin the project in Laramie County on Bishop Boulevard, between mile markers 1.08-8.7.

Next, crews will address sections on US Highway 85 at mile markers 3.91-7.31, south of Cheyenne.

Crews will then move to Albany County, and chip seal Wyoming Highway 130 from mileposts 27.38-33.67 by Centennial and US Highway 30 from mileposts 308.35-317.99 by Bosler.

Finally, they will wrap up work in Carbon County. They will chip seal Wyoming Highway 13 from mile post 8.40-17.33 by Arlington, and Wyoming Highway 71 at mile marker 1.25-10.47 south of Rawlins.

A week after chip seal operations, fog seal operations will take place in the same locations.

Drivers should be aware of potential delays as pilot cars operations will be in place on all 2-lane highways.  Also, be aware of fly rock and follow 30 MPH speed limit signs through construction zones to eliminate potential vehicle damage.

In any work zone, avoid distractions like cell phones. Project scheduling is dependent on weather conditions and material and equipment availability.
