Fremont County law enforcement officers make 246 traffic stops over Memorial Day weekend

June 6, 2018

As part of a county-wide, multi-agency seat belt enforcement operation this Memorial Day weekend, Fremont County law enforcement officers arrested 7 drunk drivers and issued 7 seat belt citations.

During the four-day (May 25-28) operation, the focus was on seat belts, and area law enforcement made 246 traffic stops. Sixty-two speeding citations were issued. Fifty-one other other citations were issued, and 185 warnings were issued to Fremont County drivers.

Fremont County law enforcement agencies are working together in year three as part of a county-wide, multi-agency, traffic enforcement effort for 2018. The Memorial Day weekend operation was the fourth of at least six planned operations in Fremont County this year. The next operation is scheduled for the July 4 holiday celebration in Fremont County.

The purpose of the law enforcement operations is to reduce fatal crashes in Fremont County through enforcement of impaired driving and seat belt laws. Focused enforcement efforts will be surrounded by a media campaign that will stress law enforcement's zero-tolerance stance on impaired driving and commitment to seat belt enforcement.

Partners in the campaign include Injury Prevention Resources and the Wyoming Department of Transportation.

Along with this enhanced enforcement effort, the Wyoming Highway Patrol is urging drivers to help keep Wyoming’s roadways safe by calling the Report Every Drunk Driver Immediately (REDDI) hotline 1-800-442-9090 to report suspected drunk drivers. Callers should be prepared to provide the dispatcher with a description of the vehicle, its location, and direction of travel.
