Funeral procession for WWII vet to pass on I-25 and I-80; High Plains Road bridge to close temporarily

June 25, 2019

LARAMIE – A funeral procession for a recently-identified World War II veteran will be on Interstates 25 and 80 late Wednesday evening.

The body of Machinist Mate First Class George Hanson will be transported from Denver International Airport to Laramie. The procession is expected to hit the Wyoming/Colorado state line sometime between 9:30 p.m. and 10 p.m.

The Wyoming Highway Patrol will escort the vehicle carrying the body from the state line to Laramie, and will have lights activated upon exiting I-80 at Grand Avenue around 10:30 p.m.

Laramie County Fire District 1 will hang a flag from a fire engine at the High Plains Road interchange (Exit 4 on I-25). As a result, traffic will not be allowed to cross the bridge from one side to the other while the trucks are set up, which will be from just before to just after the procession passes the interchange.

In Albany County, Albany County Fire District 1 will hang a flag from a fire truck at the WYO 210 bridge (Exit 323 on I-80). Traffic will be temporarily restricted to one lane alternating traffic.

Drivers should be aware of the bridge closure and the procession while traveling Wednesday evening.
