Garage sale/real estate signs not allowed in highway right-of-way

April 11, 2018

The Wyoming Department of Transportation reminds everyone that the placement of signs, whether for political campaigns, advertisements, real estate or garage sales, is not allowed inside state highway rights-of-way.

No signs of any kind are allowed at any WYDOT office site, parking area, maintenance yard or on any other WYDOT property. Signs are also not allowed to be taped, stapled or otherwise hung on traffic signals or other highway poles; fences, or signs within the right-of-way. Also prohibited are boxes or sandwich boards placed on sidewalks at intersections.

Any signs found improperly located on WYDOT right-of-way or property will be removed and taken to the local WYDOT office. In Casper, it is located at 900 Bryan Stock Trail. Signs will be available for pick-up for five days after removal. Signs not picked up after five days will be discarded. For statutes within your city, please call the respective city hall before posting signs.

Statutes regarding the law for the State of Wyoming and City of Casper are as follows:

  • Signs posted to city poles violate Casper City ordinance 17.96.060, and signs posted inside State highway right-of-way or affixed to WYDOT property such as fences along the highways, violate the Outdoor Advertising Act (Wyoming State Statute 24-10-104).
