I-80 Rock Springs marginal to close for power line repairs

July 10, 2018

The Wyoming Department of Transportation will be closing Interstate 80 in the Rock Springs area for half an hour tomorrow morning. From 5:30 a.m. to 6 a.m. on Tuesday morning, I-80 from exit 102 Dewar Drive to exit 104 Elk Street will be closed for power line repairs.

Earlier today, a power line snapped in half near the I-80 eastbound on-ramp at Dewar Drive, causing a brush fire.  The fire was quickly extinguished by the local fire department.   Rocky Mountain Power will be working on repairing the power line tomorrow morning.

Due to the nature of the work, and that Rocky Mountain Power will have to bring the power line over Interstate 80 at that location, I-80 will be closed in both the eastbound and westbound directions for half an hour.

WYDOT is recommending commuter traffic avoid the area, and bypass the interstate if at all possible.  Multiple routes are available through Rock Springs and both I-80 services roads are not affected by the work and will be available for detours.  Interstate 80 eastbound will be accessible at the Elk Street Interchange (but not westbound) and I-80 westbound will be accessible at the Dewar Drive Interchange (but not eastbound) for the short duration.

WYDOT would like to remind drivers to slow down in work zones, be alert and cautious of roadside workers.   For more information on road construction, closures and weather conditions, please visit the 511 website.
