New North Sheridan Interchange to open on Aug. 24

August 23, 2017

SheridanInterchange.jpgThe Wyoming Department of Transportation announced today that the new North Sheridan Interchange bridge and alignment will open Thursday, Aug. 24.

WYDOT originally advertised the opening for Wednesday but late Tuesday officials decided to delay and not open it until Thursday.

When the new interchange opens, traffic will be routed onto the new North Main Street alignment and bridge. The existing interchange (current exit 20) will be closed once the new interchange is open.

The new interchange will then be marked as exit 20. Motorists on I-90 will continue to use a single lane with reduced speeds but will now be able to exit the new interchange instead of the old one to access North Main Street.

Decker Road traffic will be routed onto the new North Main Street alignment (Old Yellowtail Drive) and cross over the new interchange bridge that connects back into Decker Road.

Old Decker Road will be closed around the I-90 underpass. The contractor will begin removing the Decker Road underpass in the westbound lane of I-90 in the coming weeks.

Construction continues in the area and WYDOT is urging motorists to continue to slow down and pay attention.

The $46.4 million project began in July of 2016 and is scheduled to be completed by October 2019.

Currently, the project is ahead of schedule. The contractor plans to have most of the new interchange bridge and North Main Street alignment and the westbound lanes of I-90 completed by fall.

In 2018, the contractor will begin reconstructing North Main Street from the Fort Road to the Goose Creek Bridge and working on the eastbound lanes of I-90.

For more information about the project, people can attend the weekly progress meetings at 9 a.m. on Tuesdays at the Trails End Motel in Sheridan or call Ronda Holwell at (307) 674-2300.
