Teton Pass arrestor used again

September 11, 2019

On Sept. 10 at 3:55 p.m., a pickup truck hauling a gooseneck trailer loaded with home-building logs entered the truck arrestor at milepost 7 after the driver lost his brakes at the top of the pass. The truck and trailer went through all eight nets and continued through the arrestor, coming to rest behind the arrestor.  The driver did not sustain any injury.

The arrestor is currently closed and will remain closed until the Wyoming Department of Transportation can review the incident and evaluate how the arrestor performed.

“The vehicle arrestor did not perform as expected.  We will be analyzing the system and how it functioned and take necessary steps to correct any noted problems,” WYDOT District Engineer Keith Compton said.

The truck arrestor system, near milepost 7 on the south side of the roadway, was constructed to replace the previous run-away truck ramp where vehicles had to cross over the opposing lane of oncoming traffic to use the ramp. The Teton truck arrestor system was opened in March of 2017. This is the fifth time it has been used to date.

WYDOT would like to remind drivers to slow down in work zones, be alert and cautious of roadside workers and obey all traffic control devices.  For more information on road construction, closures and weather conditions, please visit WYDOT's 511 website.
