Transportation Commission awards $10.8 million in highway contracts in February

February 26, 2018

The Wyoming Department of Transportation will work with Johnson County officials to reconstruct and enhance a section of road near Buffalo.

The Wyoming Transportation Commission awarded Simon Contractors, of Cheyenne, a $3.6 million contract for the reconstruction work on 3 miles of road on Johnson County Road No. 204. The commission awarded that and five other contracts totaling $10.8 million during its meeting recently.

For the Johnson County project, the work includes road reconstruction and the addition of a turning lane. The county will receive funds through WYDOT’s Industrial Road Program, which will provide about 50 percent of the funds.

Counties apply for the funding through WYDOT’s Local Government Coordination program. Counties that receive the funds pay for the work up front and then WYDOT reimburses them.

Only counties are eligible for the Industrial Road Program funds, which pay for road reconstruction projects in industrial areas. WYDOT is doing the construction administration side of the project while the county is handling the design work. The contract completion date is June 30, 2019.

Other contracts the commission awarded included striping, patch repairs, road resurfacing and other transportation-related work.

Lewis & Lewis Inc., of Rock Springs, won a $2.9 million contract for patching work on several roads in Lincoln, Sweetwater, Teton and Uinta counties. The patching work will fix potholes, road rutting and other issues. The contract completion date is Oct. 31, 2018.

Simon Contractors Inc., of Cheyenne, was the low bidder on a $2.3 million road repair project on WYO 156 west of Torrington in Goshen County. Crews will fix shoulders, add a pavement overlay and make minor bridge repairs on 7 miles.

WYDOT is paying for the WYO 156 work with 10-cent-fuel-tax revenue. The contract completion date is June 30, 2019.

The commission also awarded contracts for:

  • $784,972 and $495,000 to Streamline Markings Inc., of Billings, Montana for two separate restriping projects in several counties by Sept. 30, 2018 and Oct. 31, 2018; and
  • $638,938 to 71 Construction, of Casper, for repairs to several roads in Fremont County caused by the 2016 and 2017 floods by Oct. 31, 2018.
