Transportation commission awards $14.8 million in contracts

Contracts totaling more than $14.8 million for eight highway projects around the state were awarded by the Wyoming Transportation Commission during its August meeting in Cheyenne.

 

Hedquist Construction of Mills won the largest of the contracts with the low bid of $4.7 million for reconstruction of nearly two miles of Poison Spider Road between US 20-26 and Robertson Road in Mills. The road will be widened to include a center turn lane for the length of the section. Sidewalks will be added along the urban portion of the road. The contract completion date is Oct. 31, 2013.

 

Cheyenne’s Knife River won a $2.9 million contract to mill off deteriorating pavement on nearly four miles of I-25 about two miles south of Chugwater and replace it with a new layer of pavement. The work is scheduled to be done by Sept. 30, 2013.

 

Knife River also submitted the low bid of nearly $2.3 million for chip sealing work to preserve the pavement on 13 highway sections in Laramie and Carbon counties by Aug. 31, 2013.

 

Oftedal Construction of Miles City, Mont., was awarded a $1.9 million contract for building five retaining walls to address erosion problems along US 20-WYO 789 in Wind River Canyon north of Shoshoni. The improvements will restore lateral clearance eroded away by runoff and high water in the Wind River. New guardrail will be installed and some of the existing guardrail will be reset. The contract completion date is Oct. 31, 2013.

 

Lovell’s Mountain Construction submitted the low bid of $1.6 million for a pavement overlay on nearly five miles of WYO 113 between its junction with US 14 and Pine Haven. The work is expected to be done by Sept. 30, 2013.

 

Johner and Sons of Spearfish, S.D., won an $825,000 contract for repairs to a section of WYO 24 south of Devils Tower National Monument. The section was damaged by the Campstool landslide, and the work will include removing 500 feet of the existing road and bed to a depth of five feet, replacing unstable soil, laying new road base and adding a five-inch layer of new pavement. Liner material will be installed in the ditch beside the road to channel water away from the section. The contract completion date is Nov. 15.

 

More than 800 miles of rumble strips will be added to highway sections around the state under a $531,000 contract won by Surface Preparation Technologies of Mechanicsburg, Penn. The work is expected to be done by Aug. 31, 2013.

 

Gillette’s Intermountain Construction and Materials submitted the low bid of $86,000 to repair erosion damage to the access from US 16 to the Wyoming Game and Fish Department’s Wigwam Fish Rearing Station about four miles east of Ten Sleep. The contract completion date is Oct. 31.
