Transportation Commission awards $33 million in highway contracts

Contracts totaling nearly $33.4 million for 10 highway projects around the state were awarded by the Wyoming Transportation Commission during its May meeting in Casper.

 

Nearly six miles of Interstate 90 about 24 miles southeast of Buffalo will be reconstructed by Riverside Contracting of Missoula, Mont., which submitted the low bid of $20.2 million. Work will begin on the eastbound lanes and will include bridge rehabilitation and drainage improvements. Most of the work is expected to be done during the 2013 construction season, with a final layer of pavement to follow in 2014. The contract completion date is June 30, 2014.

 

HK Contractors of Idaho Falls won a $4 million contract for patching to help preserve the pavement on highways in Lincoln, Sublette, Sweetwater and Uinta counties by Oct. 15.

 

Slopes will be flattened and a 28-foot-wide clear zone created beside 16 miles of WYO 230 between Saratoga and Encampment under a $3.5 million contract awarded to LeGrand Johnson Construction of Logan, Utah. In addition to the safety improvements, a turn lane will be added to access WYDOT’s Saratoga shop. The contract completion date is Oct. 31, 2013.

 

Epoxy pavement markings will be added to sections of I-80 and I-25 and other high-traffic road sections under a $1.7 million contract won by Streamline Markings of Billings, Mont. The epoxy markings last longer than the water-based paint WYDOT uses for pavement markings on highway sections with lower traffic volumes. The work is expected to be done by Sept. 30.

 

Bridges on highways in Lincoln, Sublette and Sweetwater counties will be rehabilitated under a $1.4 million contract won by Reiman Corp. of Cheyenne. The contract completion date is Oct. 1.

 

Seven bridges on I-80 in Sweetwater County, including those at the Little America and Cedar Mountain interchanges, will be rehabilitated under a $1.1 million contract won by Dietzler Construction of Torrington. The work is scheduled to be done by Oct. 31.

 

Gillette’s S&S Builders submitted the low bid of $1 million for concrete slab repair on I-80 in Cheyenne, including work on some of the ramps at the I-25 Interchange. The aging concrete sections are deteriorating as a result of heavy truck traffic. The contract completion date is Sept. 30.

 

Other contracts awarded by the commission were:

 

Mountain Valley Hydroseed, Grand Junction, Colo., $189,000 for erosion repair on the WYO 351 bridge over the Green River south of Pinedale by Sept. 30;

 

Wilson Brothers Construction, Cowley, Wyo., $64,000 for repair of sink holes on US 20 between Thermopolis and Worland by Aug. 31; and

 

Kilroy, Afton, Wyo., $48,000 for placing wire-enclosed rock under the WYO 238 bridge over the west channel of the Salt River in Lincoln County by Oct. 31.
