Transportation Commission awards $37.8 million in highway contracts in October

Crews will work on a $10.8 million pavement and bridge project on both lanes of Interstate 80 near Laramie.

The Wyoming Transportation Commission awarded Simon Contractors, of Cheyenne, the contract for the work. The commission awarded that and seven other contracts totaling $37.8 million at its recent meeting.

For the I-80 work, crews will overlay about 8 miles of road in the west and east bound lanes in Albany County. Crews will also make repairs to two bridges in the area. The work will improve the driving surface. The contract completion date is June 30, 2020.

Other contracts the commission awarded included pavement rehabilitation, crack sealing and lane work.

Simon Contractors was also the low bidder on a $7.9 million pavement project on I-80 near Vedauwoo between Laramie and Cheyenne in Albany County.

The work will involve a mill and overlay of the surface to improve the ride. The contract completion date is Oct. 31, 2019.

McGarvin-Moberly Construction Co., of Missoula, Montana, won a $6.8 million contract to install passing lanes and pave a section of WYO 789 between Hudson and Riverton in Fremont County. 

WYDOT is doing the work to improve the road surface and to accommodate an increase in traffic. The contract completion date is Oct. 31, 2019.

The commission awarded Riverside Contracting Inc., of Missoula, Montana, a $5.8 million contract for a pavement and bridge rehabilitation project on Interstate 90 between Moorcroft and Sundance in Crook County.

Crews will replace about 5 miles of road and make isolated repairs to four bridges in the area. The contract completion date is June 30, 2020.

The commission also awarded contracts for:

  • $3.7 million to McGarvin-Moberly Construction Co. for a pavement and bridge project on 10 miles of WYO 789 between Creston Junction and Baggs in Carbon County by Oct. 31, 2019; and
  • $1.5 million, $495,611 and $480,038 for three contracts to Z & Z Seal Coating for crack seal projects at various locations in Sublette, Sweetwater, Teton, Big Horn, Park Washakie, Albany, Carbon and Laramie counties by April 30, 2019.
