Transportation Commission awards nearly $28 million in highway contracts

Contracts totaling nearly $28 million for 11 highway projects around the state were awarded by the Wyoming Transportation Commission during its regular monthly meeting in Cheyenne.
Worland’s McGarvin Moberly Construction won the largest of the contracts with a low bid of $6.9 million for milling off deteriorating pavement and replacing it with a new layer of pavement on 11 miles of US 20-26 between Waltman and Powder River west of Casper. The work also will include bridge rehabilitation. The contract completion date is Sept. 30, 2013.
McGarvin Moberly also won a $2.8 million contract for a pavement overlay on 5.5 miles of WYO 450 east of Wright by Nov. 30, and a $2.6 million contract for a pavement overlay on five miles of WYO 196 immediately south of Buffalo by Oct. 31.
Intermountain Slurry Seal of Watsonville, Calif., won three contracts for chip sealing to preserve the pavement on highways around the state. The largest of the contracts is for $3.5 million for chip seals on highways in Lincoln, Sublette, Sweetwater and Uinta counties. Intermountain also submitted the low bids of $2.9 million for chip seals on highways in Crook, Johnson, Sheridan and Weston counties and $970,000 for chip seals in Albany and Carbon counties. All three contracts carry a completion date of Aug. 31.
S&S Builders of Gillette submitted the low bid of nearly $3 million for bridge rehabilitation work on northeast Wyoming highways. Twelve bridges on Interstate 90 will get repairs to their decks and approach slabs. An I-90 overpass in Gillette damaged by a truck will get concrete girder repairs. The US 14 bridge over the Tongue River at Dayton will get a complete deck replacement. The contract completion date is Sept. 30, 2013.
Cheyenne’s Knife River won a $2.7 million contract for patching work to extend the life of the pavement on highways in Goshen, Natrona and Platte counties by Oct. 15.
CC&G of Lander was the low bidder at $1.5 million to replace the aging timber bridge on Gas Plant Road in Midwest by June 15, 2013. The road serves as the primary access route to the nearby Anadarko Petroleum plant.
Worland’s Hout Fencing of Wyoming won a $726,000 contract to extend 23rd Street in Worland by one-half mile to complete the new section connecting US 16 (Big Horn Avenue) to Washakie Avenue. The work will include new curb, gutter, sidewalks and retaining walls. The contract completion date is Nov. 15.
Cheyenne’s Reiman Corp was awarded a $94,000 contract for curb repairs and replacement on the Clark Street Viaduct in Laramie by Aug. 31.
