Transportation commission awards nearly $29 million in contracts

Contracts totaling $28.9 million for nine highway projects around the state were awarded by the Wyoming Transportation Commission during its June meeting in Cheyenne.

Reiman Corp. of Cheyenne won the largest contract with the low bid of $12.2 million for a new 1.5-mile highway section and railroad overpass spanning the BNSF tracks to connect US 85 to US 26 near F Street in Torrington. The work also will include landscaping in a park area created by the new bridge ramp between E, F and 17^th streets, and grading of an industrial park road. The contract completion date is May 31, 2014.

 

Worland’s McGarvin-Moberly Construction submitted the low bid of $6.7 million for improvements to 3.3 miles of WYO 120 immediately west of Thermopolis. The entire section will be widened to include 8-foot safety shoulders. The middle section with the climbing lane will be rebuilt, and the end sections will get a new layer of pavement. The work is expected to be done by Sept. 30, 2013.

 

Turn lanes will be added to US 189 at its intersection with Haystack Mine Road, and 2.3 miles of the road leading to the new Haystack coal mine northeast of Evanston will be paved under a $4.4 million contract won by McMurry Ready-Mix of Casper. The project is being undertaken through the Industrial Road Program, a state-funded program to help communities with economic development efforts. All the paving work is required to be done by Nov. 1, with a chip seal and reclamation work to follow next year and a final completion date of Aug. 31, 2013.

 

Lander’s High Country Construction submitted the low bid of $3 million to build a new one-mile section of WYO 70 northeast of Baggs to avoid a landslide that closed the highway last summer. Traffic will continue to use the existing temporary detour while the permanent realignment is built. The contract completion date is Sept. 31, 2013.

 

Guardrails will be upgraded on highways in Sublette and Teton counties under a $1.1 million contract awarded to American Contracting of Cheyenne. The work is expected to be complete by Oct. 31.

 

Greybull’s Pab Good trucking won a $610,000 contract for erosion repairs at three locations and debris cleanup at one along US 14-16-20 between Cody and Yellowstone National Park by Oct. 31.

 

Casper Electric submitted the low bid of $507,000 to install electronic message signs, a Web camera and a weather information system at locations along WYO 220 and WYO 487 by June 30, 2013. Two of the electronic message signs will be installed on WYO 220 on each side of its junction with WYO 487. A third sign will be installed on WYO 487 at the top of Shirley Rim north of Medicine Bow. A weather sensor and a Web camera also will be installed at that location. The contract completion date is June 30, 2013.

 

Casper Electric also won a $295,000 contract for installations of sign lighting and flashing beacons at various locations on highways in Big horn, Fremont, Hot Springs, Park and Washakie counties by Sept. 30.

 

Simon Contractors of Cheyenne submitted the low bid of $150,000 to build a 500-foot railroad spur road between US 287 and a Union Pacific Railroad crossing south of Laramie. The project is being paid for jointly by the Industrial Road Program, Union Pacific and private funding. The contract completion date is Sept. 30.
