US 189/191 closure continues

September 26, 2018

Fire-Roosevelt.jpgThe Wyoming Department of Transportation is continuing the closure of US 189/191 to allow firefighters to battle the Roosevelt fire near Jackson.

The highway will remain closed for today from Hoback Junction to Daniel Junction, near Boundurant.  WYDOT crews will re-evaluate the safety of the area later tonight.  If it is safe to do so, WYDOT will pilot cars again through this section of US 189/191 and then close the highway for the night.  However, no decision will be made until crews meet with officials again this evening.    The road closed at noon on Tuesday, Sept. 25, because of the fire.

Earlier on Tuesday when the road was open, WYDOT used pilot cars to move traffic safely through parts of US 189-191 between Hoback Junction and Daniel Junction.   WYDOT had one lane of travel open, with pilot cars directing traffic through the area.

The Roosevelt wildfire has grown to 50,586 acres as of about 8 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 26, information from the U.S. Forest Service’s website indicated.   Emergency responders have contained about 30 percent of the fire.  The fire started on Sept. 15.

Travelers can visit WYDOT’s 511 website for the latest on the wildfire impacts to road and travel conditions.

Travelers can also get updated information from the U.S. Forest Service website about the fires.
