WHP to check child safety seats Friday, May 4

April 25, 2018

SafetySeat-web.jpgThe Wyoming Highway Patrol will host a free child safety seat check from noon until 3 p.m. on Friday, May 4.

Troopers will be on hand at WHP’s headquarters at 5300 Bishop Blvd. in Cheyenne to inspect car seats to ensure children who ride in car seats are safe. They will also have car seats available for families in need while supplies last.

The event will also give troopers and other law enforcement and emergency responders who are newly certified technicians the chance to use their training to check child safety seats.

“It’s important to make sure your car seat is properly installed and in good working condition,” said Sgt. Momen Elazizi. “If a child safety seat is not properly installed, it can lead to unintentional and serious injuries.”

Using the restraints properly is vital because it can help save a child’s life. Statistics from the Wyoming Department of Transportation’s Highway Safety Office showed that child safety seat restraints were used properly about 79 percent of the time over a three-year period.
