Afflerbach Elementary School Back to School Day

Invited by school principal, Craig Williams, and United Way of Laramie County representative, Shelly Bybee, the WYDOT Local Government Coordination Office handed out free bike helmets to the students of Afflerbach Elementary School in Cheyenne, WY. Approximately 200 helmets were distributed to the students of the school, ranging from Pre-Kindergarten through 6th grade. These helmets were puchased through the WYDOT Transportation Alternatives Incentive Program (TAIP), which aims to promote bicycle safety to school-age children in the State of Wyoming.

TAIP aims to implement a comprehensive statewide initiative that enhances bicycle safety, traffic education, and school safety. This program aligns with federal and state transportation goals by promoting sustainable and safer transportation alternatives. This office participates in this initiative by attending school-sponsored or town/city-sponsored events where we have the pleasure to hand out helmets, refelctors, and other safety-incentive items to the students and youth of our Wyoming communities.
